History

Generation 1

Martha SKELHORN married Richard HOLT. in 1860 at Manchester Cathedral. Martha was the youngest daughter of Joseph and Fanny (nee ARDERN) and was born in 1837 in Hale, Cheshire.

Joseph was baptised in 1798 at Warburton, Cheshire, the son of John and Margaret (nee GRESTY). In 1821 he married Fanny ARDERN at Cheadle, Cheshire and they moved to Mobberley, where their first 6 children were born. William their 7th child was baptised at Ringway, Cheshire and their last two were born in Hale. By 1851 they had moved back to Mobberley. Fanny died in 1871 and Joseph hanged himself the following year after a quarrel with his son William. Joseph's son Joseph gave four of his seven children, a middle name of Robinson for no apparent reason (his wife's maiden name was WORTHINGTON).

John married Margaret GRESTY in 1795 at Manchester Cathedral. Only two children have been found - Mary (b1796) and Joseph - but they may have moved to the parish of Bowden and perhaps became non-confirmist. John was baptised in 1772 and his parents were Joseph and Ann SKELHORN as there were only two SKELHORNs in Warburton - Joseph and Isaac.

Joseph probably married twice - Elizabeth and Ann - because there was a baptism of a David, son of Joseph and Elizabeth, but when David's daughter was baptised the register included the parents of David - Joseph and Ann. Joesph died in 1786.
