Origin of the surname

History

Generation 1

Judith KAY was born in 1811 in Handsworth, Yorkshire. Her parents were Robert KAY and Judith (nee OAKES). In 1829 she married Frederick HAVENHAND in Sheffield, Yorkshire.

Robert KAY was baptised in 1771 in Aston with Aughton, Yorkshire, the son of Robert and Sarah (nee DAVEY). He married Judith OAKES in 1803 in Whitwell, Derbyshire. I found the marriage through the IGI, but it was 'confirmed' as correct by the death in 1807 in Handsworth of a William Kay, the son of Robert and Judith, aged 4. In Whitwell, there was a baptism in 1802 of William Chaliner, son of Judith Oakes. In addition, there is only this family of KAYs in Handsworth. so they must have come from somewhere else.

I have no information about Robert KAY apart from the baptism of his children in Aston. There was only Robert and William baptising children in Aston, so they also may have originated elsewhere. Robert married Sarah DAVEY in 1768 in Aston.
