Origin of the surname

History

Generation 1

Maud STANLEY was born in 1895 at Macclesfield, Cheshire. Her parents were William STANLEY (born 1862 in Bistre, Flintshire) and Sarah (nee WEIGH) who were married in 1885 in Bistre.

William married Sarah WEIGH in Bistre, Flintshire in 1885. William's parents were Thomas and Mary (nee HUGHES). Thomas was born in 1832 in Mold, Flintshire and married Mary in 1862 in Liverpool, Lancashire. Unfortunately Thomas died in 1866 and thus was never seen in any census with his wife and family. As almost all the STANLEYs around Hawarden in Flintshire are related we can see which Thomas it was.

Thomas's father, William, came to the Flintshire area from the parish of Plemstall, Cheshire. He was living in Chester when he married Mary ELLIS in Plemstall. She was born in Hawarden. William's parents were John (born about 1758) and Martha (nee PRITCHARD) (born about 1758) who were married in 1786 in Plemstall. Some of John's descendants moved to Denbighshire and to Stoak on the Wirral.

I do not know where John came from. His is the only STANLEY family in Plemstall.
