History

Generation 1

Hannah CARRUTHERS was baptised in Kirklinton, Cumberland in 1821. Her parents were Richard and Hannah (nee LITTLE), who married in 1819 in Arthuret, Cumberland. Hannah married John HOLLIDAY in 1845 in Arthuret and died in 1902 in Kirklinton.

Her father, Richard was baptised in 1789 in Kirklinton, the son of Richard (baptised 1743 Kirklinton) and Mary (nee DIXON). As well as Hannah, he also had an illegitimate (but acknowledged) son, John, by Sibel Weal and his youngest son, Richard, went to Australia, where he became Mayor of Strathalyn, South Australia.

From one of my correspondents, I have three further generations going back to John (1640-1712) and Catherine (nee WILSON). I have also collected most of the CARRUTHERS from the parishes around Kirklinton and included them in the main family tree or one of four smaller trees (not yet connected).
